Themwear, LLC stands as a independent art atelier, publishing house, and cooperative, meticulously curated to embody artistry, historical reverence, and inclusivity. Established in 2017 by Olive Nixie Habib (they/she), a disabled Lebanese-American artist and author, Themwear emerged from Olive’s pursuit of the quintessential pair of well-fitting vintage jeans. What initially commenced as a personal endeavor swiftly evolved into a flourishing local enterprise, before extending its influence from Los Angeles to a global clientele encompassing all 50 U.S. states, U.S. territories, and over 30 countries.

 

Founder’s Vision and Heritage

Olive Nixie Habib’s vision for Themwear is deeply rooted in a lifelong commitment to creativity and vintage culture. Olive’s foundational training was imparted by her mother, a distinguished appraiser and auctioneer of significant antiquities, including documents by Abraham Lincoln and works by Salvador Dalí. This profound respect for history influences the curation and design methodologies employed at Themwear.

 

Olive’s upbringing was immersed in a diverse array of artistic disciplines—painting, ceramics, theater, writing, dance, photography, and sewing—fostering a refined eye for detail and an enduring appreciation for craftsmanship. Except for her school uniforms, Olive’s entire wardrobe in adolescence was acquired through yard sales and thrift stores, a testament to her immigrant family’s frugal survival mechanisms, which they took pride in. This practice instilled a lasting respect for the potential inherent in pre-owned garments and goods.

 

Commitment to Community

A cornerstone of Themwear’s ethos is the commitment to giving back. Olive has consistently leveraged her expertise to design collections that fundraise for various causes. Themwear annually donates thousands of pounds of clothing and blankets to homeless shelters and halfway houses across Los Angeles, demonstrating a tangible commitment to community support. Additionally, Olive has dedicated over a decade to mentoring youth, beginning in her own youth, and has engaged in rehabilitating ex-convicts by curating and styling entire wardrobes for them to express themselves while assimilating back into society. Her ongoing mentorship of all these individuals underscores a sustained dedication to fostering personal growth and compassion.

 

Professional Background

Prior to her full-time dedication to fashion, Olive cultivated a career as an actress, model, and photographer in Los Angeles, forging enduring relationships within the entertainment industry. These connections remain integral to Themwear, with the brand frequently supplying vintage garments and props for feature films, television productions, and high-profile red carpet events.

 

Mission and Offerings

At Themwear, each item is perceived as a narrative that evolves with every owner. The core mission is to provide size-inclusive vintage and original designs that seamlessly blend artistry, style, and cultural significance. Vintage collections have featured rare 1960s French couture, 1990s Dolce & Gabbana runway looks, and several of the iconic selvedge redline “Big E” Levi’s, each piece exemplifying superior craftsmanship and the transformative power of fashion.

Over the past two years, Themwear has successfully styled more than 1,700 private clients. The company’s robust relationships within the entertainment sector have facilitated the inclusion of its pieces in diverse platforms, including advertisements, museum exhibitions, and on-screen performances. Themwear’s co-op retail establishments, located inside the Pasadena Antique Center & Annex on the historic Fair Oaks Avenue and inside the Sherman Oaks Antique Mall on Ventura Boulevard, offer an extensive array of costume and fine jewelry, accessories, antiques, rare books, and curiosities.
